Rituals Explained

Every ball brings a Ritual identity. Understanding that identity is how you stop buying random Glyphs.

Core loop

Complete illuminated missions → fire Ritual → optionally upgrade via Altar fills → reduce mission count / raise power. Full mission details live in Missions & Rituals.

Multiball

The classic chaos button. Great for bumper clear and Endless score; dangerous if you cannot nudge drains (Cradle & Nudge).

Tempest / Inferno style payoffs

Board-wide damage spikes that reward clean setups. Excellent for boss races toward Bonus Tables.

Specialty rituals

Some balls lean bombs or unique hazard spawns. Read the Ritual prompt every unlock — names alone mislead.

Upgrade priority

If mission chains feel long, upgrade the Ritual you actually use rather than unlocking five half-powered options.

Shop pairing

Mana should reinforce Ritual uptime or the damage window after it fires — Glyph Progress.

Ritual upgrade breakpoints

Upgrades that cut mission count change pacing more than raw damage upgrades. When Acts feel long, cut count first.

Colour literacy

Match mission icon colours to unlocked Rituals without thinking. That literacy is the difference between Multiball on demand and Multiball by accident.

Teaching the Altar

New players often hit the Altar without choosing intentionally. Make the choice verbal: unlock versus upgrade.

Extra practical detail for players rituals.json

Focus on one measurable improvement next run: fewer drains, faster Ritual, or cleaner boss reads. Tie that metric to a single linked guide and ignore the rest of the wiki until the metric moves. This keeps Cult of PiN practice deliberate instead of chaotic tab-hopping across every hub at once.

Field notes specific to players rituals

On this topic, measure one metric for three runs in a row before changing your build identity. For players rituals, useful metrics include spare-ball count at boss entry, Rituals fired before Act III, or seconds remaining on the boss timer when the wall breaks.

If the metric does not move, change exactly one variable: cradle cadence, Altar upgrade choice, or the first Glyph purchased after Act I. Changing three variables at once makes players rituals advice impossible to validate.

Finish by writing a two-sentence summary you would give a friend who only has ten minutes. If you cannot explain players rituals that briefly, you are still collecting trivia instead of building a playable plan for Cult of PiN’s August 2026 1.0 systems.

Variant nuance 1: on players/rituals.json, refuse to open Endless until the campaign metric for this page improves once.
