Eight balls, unique rituals — earn them by clearing tables and experimenting.

Ball Unlocks

Ball choice is the first real deckbuilding decision in Cult of PiN. Each of the eight balls changes speed, weight feel, starting Ritual identity, and how your early missions should be sequenced. This page explains how unlocks fit the meta loop and how to decide what to chase next.

Unlock philosophy

Balls are not redeemed with codes. You unlock them by completing table goals and progressing the collection panel. Once unlocked, a ball becomes selectable on future runs, which is why finishing even an ugly Act VI clear still pays off. Cross-check flavour and power fantasy on the Ball Tier List after you own a few options.

Why balls matter more than cosmetics

A heavier or faster ball changes cradle timing, nudge windows, and how safely you can hold for ramp shots. Ritual identity matters even more: some balls lean Multiball chaos, others lean Inferno-style board melts or specialty bombs. Read Rituals Explained before you force a ball that fights your Glyph plan.

Practical unlock route

  1. Clear the tutorial and your first table on an easier difficulty using a comfortable starter — see Starter Ball Picks.

  2. Learn Cradle & Nudge so you stop burning spare balls.

  3. Push Act VI once; even a messy clear expands options.

  4. Revisit harder difficulties only after your Glyph pool is broader (Glyph Progress).

Synergy with Glyph shops

Mana spent after Acts should respect the ball’s passive. Damage multipliers that reward score spikes pair differently with Multiball than with controlled single-ball precision. Use the Build Planner checklist before Master-level attempts.

Table variety

Some tables punish certain trajectories. If a new unlock feels “weak,” try it on another board from Tables Overview before shelving it. Bumper variants and Table Traits later in a run can also flip a ball from awkward to excellent.

Achievement overlap

Several Steam achievements track Ritual usage, damage thresholds, and clears. The Achievements page lists the player-facing goals that naturally encourage trying every ball.

Common mistakes

  • Switching balls every death without learning cradle timings.

  • Buying Glyphs that ignore the ball’s Ritual economy.

  • Assuming unlocks require online codes or Discord giveaways.

Stay patient, clear Acts, and expand the roster deliberately.

Roster planning spreadsheet (mental)

Keep three columns in your head: owned balls, balls you can unlock next, and balls you refuse until nudge is reliable. That refusal list protects learning. When a new unlock arrives, spend one run only on cradle timings for that weight class before judging its tier placement on Ball Tier List.

Table-by-table unlock farming

If a table geometry fights your current ball, switch tables rather than rage-rerolling the same drain. Tables Overview exists for that rotation. Bonus routes can also accelerate mastery when bosses die cleanly — Bonus Tables.

Ritual-first evaluation

Judge a new ball by whether you understand its Ritual prompt in the first Act. If the prompt is confusing, open Rituals Explained mid-session instead of guessing with mana.

Extra practical detail for codes ball-unlocks.json

Focus on one measurable improvement next run: fewer drains, faster Ritual, or cleaner boss reads. Tie that metric to a single linked guide and ignore the rest of the wiki until the metric moves. This keeps Cult of PiN practice deliberate instead of chaotic tab-hopping across every hub at once.
